Mecca, a city in Saudi Arabia, is the holiest city in Islam and the destination of the Hajj pilgrimage. However, be aware that there can be health risks. If you take the right precautions, you will be well-protected and you can travel carefree. The following vaccinations and/or preventive measures are recommended for Mecca.
There is a risk of meningococcal infection in the large crowd. That is why the authorities of Saudi Arabia are making the meningococcal vaccination mandatory for all participants aged 1 year and over in Hajj and Umrah. The vaccination must be given at least 10 days before arrival in Saudi Arabia.
